- The issue of new bonds is rather rare at this moment, but you don’t need to pay a fee.
- With the sale or purchase of shares, you pay 0.27 % stock market tax (with a maximum of 800 euros). These limits only play in major purchases because they are for individual transaction.
Can costs be deducted?
The stock exchange tax is charged on the purchase price. Entry fees or brokerage fees aren’t taken into account. Upon sale, the tax is also charged on the sale price, without taken the costs into account. Seeking out a bank with low transaction costs is appropriate.
There are some opportunities to avoid the stock market tax. For example, a foreign bank doesn’t pay the taxes. But banks and brokers that actively advertise in Belgium and offer their services via the Internet do have to pay taxes of the authorities. This means, there can be a tough discussion with the tax authorities.
