In Hong Kong, the spectacular ‘Jewelry and Gem Fair’ took place last week, which is since 1983 the largest diamond –and jewellery fair in the world. The Antwerp diamond industry couldn’t be absent and this year, it was represented by at least 99 companies. The role of the Belgian harbour town in the international diamond network was never as important as now.

More than 50.000 professional purchasers and 3600 exhibitors from 48 countries booked a ticket to Hong Kong for a visit at this well-known international fair. The general tendency was again excellent: there have never been more negotiations than during the last edition. The Antwerp diamond industry has definitely had its share in this business, with almost more than 100 diamond companies on the participant list.
Antwerp Diamond Pavilion never so popular
According to the Antwerp World Diamond Center, the official representative of the diamond industry and coordinator of the ‘Antwerp Diamond Pavilion’ in Hong Kong, a new record has been set. “This well-known fair is a very important appointment at the international agenda. The applications for participation for the next edition are reaching us already now.”
The AWDC aims at defending the values of the diamond business and reinforcing the image of Antwerp as leading diamond city. For centuries, the city is the biggest business center for rough and polished diamonds in the world and serves as head quarter for more than 1700 diamond companies.

Hong Kong, the leading superpower in the international trade of finished jewellery, is a free port where no taxes or restrictions are imposed for the trade of precious jewellery or diamond jewellery.
